Executive Director Cynthia Remec of BoardAssist, a nonprofit organization in New York City that matches prospective board members with organizations, finds that the most important role these potential board members play is one of leadership. “We find that most of our placements take on a leadership role within six months. And since leadership is rare, those skills, in whatever area, are very often more valuable to the organization that their financial commitment.”
